AAD with PTSD...What A Combo
«

I have read a lot about AAD and it seems that most of the issues supposedly arise from EARLY childhood issues, whereas PTSD can come from any period in life. I think that, for me, losing both parent multiple times (via separation first, then death), leads to issues of abandonment, separation anxiety, attachment issues, pain/grief/loss and distrust. The fact that looking at all the possible ways PTSD and AAD are affecting me, as well as the things I must do in order to try and stop allowing these things to so negatively impact my life is overwhelming and scarey. Throw on top of that the fear of losing my wife and kids if I can't get a grip on this (or, possibly, even if I CAN change), and I am a complete mess.

hey coach doc,
many of us have multiple dx it kinds of goes with the territory i guess.
for me anyway the CPTSD i have is a direct result of the early childhood trauma... BUT an event of betrayal 18 months ago TRIGGERED it into FULLBLOWN CPTSD its was a ticking time bomb waiting to happen . without the childhood trauma i wouldnt have had the massive breakdown 18 months ago..
i wish you all the luck on your journey to healing, we all of us here are at various stages on that path, and will do everything we can to help you on yours.
with love

I think AD can also be related to trauma in an adult life as well. Dissociation and ADD.
You sound like you are making a lot of effort coach.

Hi all,
I was listening to several trauma/PTSD teleseminars and I don't remember for sure who stated it, maybe Peter Levine..
but he said that he has never seen a military vet that had PTSD that did NOT have childhood issues like Attachment disorder...
It appears the research is showing that the unhealthy attachment pattern/experience as a child is actually what makes an adult more vulnerable to PTSD.
So that might be the answer as to why all people who experience trauma don't end up with PTSD (the "disorder" is a step more serious than just Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) apparently), the ones who do were primed by their childhood experience. Their nervous system developed in such a way as to make PTSD a result of adult trauma.
So the AAD combo with PTSD is very understandable..
squishes,
LM
