The Black and White Rainbow - John Trent
At a Christian Teacher's Conference, I attended a workshop on child abuse. The presenter read this older children's picture book... wow! It's the story of a mouse who is trying to stop the evil mole and his gang from taking mice away. In the process, all the colours disappeared from their world, leaving things black, white, and grey. The presenter said that the feelings and emotions mirror what children feel when trauma occurs. He also said that it could be read to a whole class/family wherein there were children who weren't abused as abuse wasn't the focus, rather it was a bad thing and every child has a memory of something bad happening to them. Although the conclusion is not as quick in our RADdishes, it does present the ideas of healing, living again, forgiveness, and closure.
Unfortunately, it's not available at bookstores, but Google the author, John Trent, or the title and you can order it from him directly. It's about $14.00 plus shipping. It's really worth it - for us as adults to understand better, and for our darlins to know that there is healing and forgiveness.

I actually remember checking this book out from the library when my boys were younger, and as I recall, ds11 liked it. I'm going to try to see if I can find it again. Thanks for the recommendation!
