"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful." .. Colossians 3:15 (KJV) "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful." (NIV Version) Samuel Logan Brengle believed the key to living a victorious Christian life was keeping a peaceful heart. The peaceful heart has a single initial requisite: desire for God. A peaceful heart is: the self freed of self will, put under the complete control of God. It is the soul captured and captivated by Divinity, who is apprehended as personal and all-loving; the soul eager only to do and be what glorifies God, characterized by creative love that has for its object, God. The overflow of such lives is the "living water" that helps cleanse and sustain our lives. It denotes the true conservation approach to life--cherishing all life because all life is of God. The peaceful heart becomes such when God as Spirit is preceived as Personal and allowed to become a great Friend in the most intimate manner. Listening for God's direction and following is all-important, but it is imperative here to note that God's voice of revelation will never oppose the recorded ordinances of God. Brengle said of the holy men in the Bible: "When Jesus came, a body was prepared for Him and through the body He wrought wondrous works; but when the other Comforter comes, he takes possession of those bodies that are freely presented to Him, and He touches their lives with grace; He shines peacefully and gloriously on their faces. He flashes beams of pity and compassion and heavenly affection from their eyes; he kindles a fire of love in their minds. They become His temple, and their hearts are a holy of holies in which His blessed Presence abides. From that central citadel He works, enduing the man who has received Him with power. . . "
